Staying Authentic in Social Media
The importance of being authentic in Twitter
Stay Authentic in Social Media
People have become less and less authentic in recent years.
In great part, due to Social Media, and sharing only what they want the world to see.
Let’s jump right into it!
In today’s post, you’ll learn:
Introduction.
Why Authenticity Matters.
How to Stay Authentic.
Examples of not authentic people.
Introduction:
“Fake it till you make it“, that’s a quote you’ve all seen in the past times. Lately, everyone is just faking themselves, to present themselves as who they want to become, not who they are.
Everyone is bragging about their success, and how you can be like them, it’s all marketing, and the sad part, is that it works.
But I want to talk about the other side, about being authentic, and how that is the most effective way to succeed at anything, even if what you say isn’t what the other person would want to listen.
Why Authenticity Matters:
Would you rather talk to someone full of crap, or someone that’s 100% authentic? Of course, you are going to choose the latter, that’s why the succeed.
There are many benefits to being authentic about yourself and what you do.
Trust and credibility, are essential, no matter if you want to build a community or sell a product, if people don’t trust you, then you are done.
Connections are built on authenticity, if you can’t show someone your true self, then there is no way, you’ll be able to build meaningful relationships.
Relatability, by being transparent and showing your true self, you’ll find out there are a lot of people in your same situation. People love when other people relate to their issues, if your audience doesn’t relate with your content, they’ll stop engaging with it.
Fulfillment comes from doing what you know you have to do. It doesn’t come from posting on social media what other people want to listen, if you just write for the people and not for you, then you are doing it wrong. You’ll burn out, and end up not liking what you do.
These are just some quick examples, there are a thousand other reasons why being authentic is crucial.
How to Stay Authentic:
Stop praising people for what they do. If someone has posted on Social Media about their latest project, don’t go and reply like everyone else with an empty message like: “Looks awesome“, believe me, I’ve fallen in this trap way too many times. And it doesn’t work. You know what does work? Being authentic. Go and tell him all the things that could be improved, that way you’ll truly help that person as well as stay authentic. People want to receive value a “Looks awesome“ adds none.
Being authentic it’s all about saying things how they are, without masking things.
Everyone is always talking about their success. They are doing it wrong. You have to talk openly about your failures, people will know you are authentic that way. And believe me, authenticity pays off.
You’ll land 0 clients if people don’t trust you. You’ll get no engagement if people think you are lying. It applies to everything in life.
Examples of not authentic people:
You’ve surely seen people claiming they make thousands of dollars online, do you trust them? Of course you don’t. Because they are not being authentic.
They are probably full of crap. But even if they were telling the truth, you wouldn’t trust them.
But, if they were authentic, and explained the struggles they’ve been through, and how the road is way harder than how most people paint it out to be, then maybe, there’s a chance people will trust you.
Let me use some examples I found scrolling through X:
Who would you trust more? It doesn’t matter if what they are saying is true or not. They both share good tips on their posts, and they all run a business about how to make money, but if you had to trust someone, who would it be?
The one who claims to make 10k and makes it seem easy, or the one who shows the struggles and is authentic? For me, I’d take the latter every single time.
