DM’s also known as direct messages are the most personal interactions in Social Media, if you use them effectively, you’ll get very far away.

Why direct messages matter.

DMs are the most effective way to connect with someone online. After exchanging just a few messages, a lot of things happen.

  1. You get to know your audience better.

  2. You build trust with people in your community.

  3. You make that person feel special.

  4. Social Media analyzes every interaction. DM’s too. That means it will start showing you more content from that person, and you’ll also appear in his feed.

But getting into someone's DM is only the beginning of something more profound.

After sending a DM and connecting with someone, you’ve just got yourself, someone who is going to engage with your content, someone who is going to be more honest with you, and is going to help you when you are doing something wrong, and if you are into business, you’ve just got yourself your best customer.

Do this enough times, and you’ll see a massive improvement in your engagement.

Create quality messages.

Not everything works, there are some key points you want to master, before going and sending shit messages to your followers.

Before going further ahead, you must know why you are going to talk with your followers.

To express gratitude, offer help, share exclusive content, ask for feedback, or just for the sake of talking with your community. Whatever the reason is, your DMs must follow the following structure.

They must be as personal as you can, you must include his name, and tell him where you’ve found him. Then go straight to your point, explain why you are grateful or how you can help, and then, you can either include your Call To Action or wait for their reply before sending any links, or asking for favors.

On the other hand, the few people who have mastered DMs, are growing their audiences much faster, the messages they send go this way.

How to increase outreach.

There are a few ways to start talking with someone in DM.

You can ask people to DM you, for example, if you are discussing something, just let them know they can send a DM, and they’ll send it 90% of the time.

After engaging with someone's content, go straight to their DMs, and share some kind words or feedback. Remember the structure we’ve mentioned before.

The best strategy to reach a lot of accounts is by using some auto DM software. Most Twitter specialized tools allow this. The one I’m using is Typefully, but Tweet Hunter also has that feature. This way, you can send a DM to everyone who engages with your content.

This one is less effective, as you can’t personalize it, therefore the reply rate is much lower, but you’ll save countless hours of going through DMs one by one, as well as reaching more people. Although the reply rate is lower, you’ll get more replies, as you’ll send more messages.
